Elder Nutrition
The Elder Nutrition Program provides management for congregate and home delivered meals for twenty nutrition sites in the following seventeen counties: Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Estill, Fayette (3 centers), Franklin, Garrard, Harrison, Jessamine, Lincoln, Madison (Berea center and Richmond center), Mercer, Nicholas, Powell, Scott and Woodford.
The program's goal is to deliver quality meals to the nutrition sites and homebound clients (age 60 years of age and older) so that senior citizens who receive the meals have nutritionally sound meals that meet at least one-third of the current daily recommended dietary allowance. Although prepared with minimal salt, sugar and fat, all meals are regular diet, except that diabetic desserts are available on request.
Eligibility for congregate meals are based on the following criteria:
- A person aged sixty or older and the spouse of that person;
- Volunteers to handicapped persons residing in elderly housing complexes where a congregate site is located;
- Disabled individuals who reside in non-institutional households with and accompany persons eligible for congregate meals;
- Clients in Adult Day Care, Adult Day Health Care and Alzheimer's respite programs.
Eligibility for home-delivered meals shall be based on the following criteria:
- A person aged sixty or older and the spouse of that person, if either by reason of illness or incapacitating disability is unable to attend a congregate site and there is no one in the home able to prepare a nutritious meal on a regular basis;
- A non-elderly disabled person who is a member of a non-institutional household with an elderly person.
